Thank you to 2016, 2017 and 2018 LECOM Health Challenge Volunteers! 

In three years, the tournament has donated more than $350,000 to Chautauqua-Erie Region charitable organizations, and crowned three tremendous champions – Rick Lamb, Chesson Hadley and Nelson Ledesma.

Volunteer registration for the 2019 LECOM Health Challenge is now OPEN!  The tournament will be contested on The Upper Course at Peek’n Peak Resort from July 1 to 7, 2019.  You may register online by clicking the button below.  If you have any questions please email us at:  volunteer@lecomhealthchallenge.com

Volunteers are critical to the success of the LECOM Health Challenge. 

Volunteers are assigned to a variety of committees, performing tasks required to conduct this Web.com Tour event.  Please refer to the Volunteer Committee Descriptions for more information on available positions.

Volunteers are required to purchase the Official LECOM Health Challenge Volunteer Package and should be available to work three (3) shifts (schedule is specific to your volunteer assignment).  Each volunteer must also attend a volunteer training session prior to the start of the tournament.

If you volunteered for the 2016, 2017 and/or 2018 LECOM Health Challenge the Official Volunteer Package is FREE for you in 2019.  Please register for free by January 31, 2019.  

New volunteers who have not worked with us on the LECOM Health Challenge in the past may register for $20 beginning February 1, 2019.

The Official Volunteer Package includes the following:

  • One (1) logo golf shirt
    • Additional logo golf shirt may be purchased for $25
  • One (1) cap or visor
  • On-site parking for one (1) vehicle all week
  • Complimentary food and beverages during volunteer shifts

Total value of the Official Volunteer Package is more than $100.

The credit card charge for your Official Volunteer Package will show up on your statement as:  CHAUTAUQUA REGION ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION.  Chautauqua Region Economic Development Corporation is the 501(c)3 organization responsible for operating the LECOM Health Challenge.

Volunteers that work 3 or more shifts receive either one (1) complimentary round of golf at Peek’n Peak Resort, or one (1) complimentary admission pass to Splash Lagoon Indoor Water Park.

 

Junior volunteers between the ages of 13 and 17 (on July 1, 2019) may sign up to be Standard Bearers.  The Official Volunteer Package cost is $0 for Junior Volunteers.

Descriptions of each Volunteer Committee:

Marshal

Control the flow of spectators outside the ropes, and players and officials inside the ropes.  Marshals quiet the gallery when players are hitting, spot golf balls, control crosswalks and maintain drop ropes.  Marshals are assigned to practice areas and to each hole.  Marshals stand/walk during most of the day.  Knowledge of the game of golf is preferred, but not required.

Walking Scorer

Record player scores and statistics on a Cellular Device.  Walking Scorers must be able to walk 18 holes, and should have knowledge of the game of golf.

Caddie Services / Finishing Tent

Organize and distribute caddie bibs prior to each round.  Ensure that caddie bibs are collected after each round.  Help maintain the Finishing Tent where players review, and verify, their scorecards.

Hospitality

Help insure the exceptional appearance of each hospitality tent.  Greet sponsors at the entrances to each tent and check for proper credentials.

Practice Range

Maintain the high quality presentation of the driving range and practice areas.  Gather, clean and distribute practice golf balls.  Place player name signs on the driving range.  Regulate access to all practice areas.

Scoring Central

Record and transmit scores from on course.  Work with PGA TOUR Staff and Rules Officials to ensure all scores are correct.

Available shifts on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

 

Scoring Communications

Help check out, and check in, scoring equipment to Walking Scorers.  Assist with training them on use of scoring equipment that record/transmit scores to Scoring Central.  Repairs/replace scoring equipment on the course during tournament.  Deliver scorecards from Scoring Central to PGA TOUR Truck.

Available shifts on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

 

Standard Bearer

This committee is open to adult and junior volunteers.

A standard bearer volunteer will accompany each group of players carrying a scoring standard that weighs approximately 8 lbs.  A scoring standard displays each player’s score in relation to par on a cumulative basis.  Volunteer standard bearers must be able to walk 18 holes while carrying a standard, and have a strong knowledge of golf etiquette.

Player Transportation

Responsible for transportation of players, caddies, officials and designated guests both on and off the golf course via shuttle van.  Transportation volunteers must be at least 25 years old on July 1, 2019, and possess a valid driver’s license.

Volunteer Headquarters

Responsible for administration and operations in Volunteer Headquarters.  This includes checking in volunteers, distributing uniforms, ensure that volunteer food and beverages are set-up, and maintain a clean and orderly Volunteer Headquarters.  Committee members will have knowledge of all other committees so they may answer questions and give direction.
