Volunteer registration for the 2017 LECOM Health Challenge is now open.

Volunteers are critical to the success of the LECOM Health Challenge.  Volunteers are assigned to a variety of committees, performing tasks required to conduct this Web.com Tour event.  Please refer to the Volunteer Committee Descriptions for more information on available positions.

Reasons to volunteer:

Volunteers are required to purchase the Official LECOM Health Challenge Volunteer Package and should be available to work 3 shifts (schedule is specific to your volunteer assignment).  Each volunteer must also attend a volunteer training session prior to the start of the tournament.

The Official Volunteer Package costs $45 and includes the following:

  • One (1) logo golf shirt
    • Additional logo golf shirt may be purchased for $25
  • One (1) cap or visor
  • One (1) volunteer credential, valid for volunteer’s entry to the 2017 LECOM Health Challenge all week (even on days you are not working)
  • One (1) weekly ticket for guest entry to the 2017 LECOM Health Challenge
  • On-site parking for one (1) vehicle all week
  • Complimentary food and beverages during volunteer shifts

The credit card charge for your Official Volunteer Package will show up on your statement as:  CHAUTAUQUA REGION ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION.  Chautauqua Region Economic Development Corporation is the 501(c)3 organization responsible for operating the LECOM Health Challenge.

Volunteers that work 3 or more shifts receive either one (1) complimentary round of golf at Peek’n Peak Resort, or one (1) complimentary admission pass to Splash Lagoon Indoor Water Park.

 

Junior volunteers between the ages of 13 and 17 (on July 3, 2017) may sign up to be Standard Bearers.  The Official Volunteer Package cost is waived for Junior Volunteers.

Descriptions of each Volunteer Committee:

 

Marshals

Control the flow of spectators outside the ropes, and players and officials inside the ropes.  Marshals quiet the gallery when players are hitting, spot golf balls, control crosswalks and maintain drop ropes.  Marshals are assigned to practice areas and to each hole.  Marshals stand/walk during most of the day.  Knowledge of the game of golf is preferred, but not required.

Admissions

Manage ticket sales and will call in the box office.  Greet spectators as they enter the tournament and check for proper credentials.  Hand out pairings sheets.  Provide general information to spectators at the gates.

Caddie Services

Assist with professional caddie registration.  Organize and distribute caddie bibs.  Ensure that caddie bibs are collected and cleaned after rounds.

Golf Channel Aide

Assist Golf Channel in their tournament operations and production.

Hospitality

Help insure the exceptional appearance of each hospitality tent.  Greet sponsors at the entrances to each hospitality tent and check for proper credentials.

Practice Range

Maintain the high quality presentation of the driving range and practice areas.  Gather, clean and distribute practice golf balls.  Place player name signs on the driving range.  Regulate access to all practice areas.

Scoring Central

Ensure that official scorecards are verified with PGA TOUR officials and signed by the professionals.  Manage player routes from 9 Green and 18 Green to Scoring Central location.  Ensure Scoring Central is kept secure, clean and stocked with adequate supplies.  Knowledge of the game of golf, and experience operating a computer is preferred.  Math skills are required.

Scoring Communications

Monitor and update PGA TOUR scoring system.  Communicate scoring information received from Walking Scorers Committee.  Volunteers will input data into scoring computers and run scorecards.  Knowledge of the game of golf is preferred.

Standard Bearers

This committee is open to adult and junior volunteers.  The Official Volunteer Package cost is waived for junior volunteers – who are between the ages of 13 and 17 (on July 3, 2017).

A standard bearer volunteer will accompany each group of players carrying a scoring standard that weighs approximately 8 lbs.  A scoring standard displays each player’s score in relation to par on a cumulative basis.  Volunteer standard bearers must be able to walk 18 holes while carrying a standard, and have a strong knowledge of golf etiquette.

Player Transportation

Responsible for transportation of players, caddies, officials and designated guests both on and off the golf course via shuttle van or golf cart.  Transportation volunteers must be at least 25 years old on July 3, 2017, and possess a valid driver’s license.

Volunteer Headquarters

Responsible for administration and operations in Volunteer Headquarters.  This includes checking in volunteers, distributing uniforms, ensure that volunteer food and beverages are set-up, and maintain a clean and orderly Volunteer Headquarters.  Committee members will have knowledge of all other committees so they may answer questions and give direction.

Walking Scorers

A walking scorer volunteer will accompany each group of players, use a handheld device to track statistics, results and scores.  Knowledge of the game of golf is required.  Walking scorers must be able to walk 18 holes.
